Not the least of which is the apparent connection of the Jesuits with Freemasonry:

I still have many reservations and I feel they are valid.

I don't claim to have all the answers, but little has been offered here to ease my discomfort with the Jesuits. If you have all the answers already, why ask questions?
OPUS DOMINI TRANSLATION CODE
It also seems apparent that the DaVinci Code film has exaggerated it's portratyal of Opus Dei. Yes, and I also asked if there were any similarities with the philosophy and agenda of the Jesuits in the same post.įrom what I gather however, it seems there is not, so Opus Dei, while holding to fundamentalist Catholicism, doesn't appear to pose the same threat as the Jesuit order. My concern is not for mainline Catholicism, but the radical subgroups who have an agenda to rid the world of Protestantism, an agenda the Jesuit Order clearly has according to the facts. I have not been provided any evidence to the contrary yet.īut I'm not going to argue with you, I can't wipe out all prejudices against catholic orders or catholicism in general - would be a waste of my time. There's a lot of prejudices on the internent about Jesuits - doesn't make them true. Also, I think your source may be a bit biased. I'm not afraid of protestants ruining my catholic church or burning me, despite that being the reality in the Netherlands in the 16th and 17th century.īesides, I said the Jesuits weren't the inquisition, and that's true. Please find out from them if the same oath still has to be taken. You said you personally know some Jesuits. Just because there are no longer lynchings or concentration camps, does that make Jews and African Americans feel any safer when the ideology is still there? The ideology behind the Inquisition is just as much alive and well in the Jesuit order as is the idealogy of Hitler in the hearts of the Skinheads, NeoNazis and the KKK. What I was referring to when I said 'there is plenty to fear' is the ideology and agenda they have. No, of course I am not afraid of falling victim to a repeat of the Inquisition in practice. I have no reason to disbelieve that Jesuits today have to take the same oath, even though the law today forbids them to carry it out in practice.Īre you afraid that the jesuits are coming to get you? Do you KNOW any jesuits personally? Because I do. The blood oath clearly shows that any and all methods (including violence) were deemed acceptable to the Jesuits in order to achieve thier goals. Just as some protestants spread their faith. Thus, nothing really has changed as far as ideology.Īlso, they weren't violent, they were just convinced to spread the catholic faith. The methods may have changed, but the agenda and goal remain the same. So? We're not talking about Jesuits NOW anymore. Great church, great piece of art.Īs a Protestant I think it is repulsive, apalling, sacraligious garbage, but I guess that is to be expected.

Sure, I've seen that statue when I was in the Gesù three months ago. If you open up the cover of the book of the Da Vinci Code, you'll see Dan Brown describes the work as fiction - and so it is. I know some members of Opus Dei (through their children) and they seem to see clearly the importance of living as Christians in every aspect of their lives because of the work of this movement. Some people join Opus Dei, and these people meet in small groups to read the Scriptures, go to classes designed to help them know Jesus better, pray at Mass daily, and go on retreats yearly. They run retreats, 'workcamps', and conferences. From what I can see, Opus Dei has no agenda beyond helping people to come to Christ. Its members try to live 'holiness in every day life' - that is, they emphasise the truth that all Christians are called to follow Christ and to radical conversion to His Gospel, they remind us that it is not just priests and famous saints who are called to heaven through the Blood of Christ. Opus Dei is an organisation within the Catholic Church which was founded last century. Isn't there an Opus Dei 'monk' (an office which does not exist within Opus Dei) running around trying to kill and harm people (considered a sin by Catholics - including Opus Dei) in that movie/book? I think it's fair to say that Opus Dei are not accurately portraying in the Da Vinci Code.
